The power is back on, and I have my beloved computer back! Oh my, did that sound creepy? I don't care! Deal with it!

In other news, I've burned through 2 Neil Gaiman books in a matter of weeks, and now I'm on a William Gibson book, called Pattern Recognition. Yay!

Welcome to another exciting edition of reading what I have written! I hope you made popcorn. Why? Because I like popcorn and it's fun to eat it while you look at things. And besides, what would this site be without the obligatory food references?

Wow, I'm getting a late start on updating today. It's after dinnertime. Wow, I haven't even lifted weights yet. In other news, though, I've actually been doing my schoolwork. If I have to point it out, it means I'm not doing enough.

In the extracurricular activities section of today, I went for a run with Colin, the guy that writes stuff bi-weekly in Blog 2 over there.

iPod: Music in a Bag

The power went out the day before yesterday, and I was left without the ability to use my computer, the center of my productivity, and also where my thousands of songs are stored. However, my fully-loaded iPod still contained a battery charge, and I was able to listen to many pleasing songs. It eased my anxiety and was pleasant to me.

And Space Cowboy Software gazes upon another morning. The word morning being used ambiguously, but to clarify, I don't mean the morning where the sun comes up. I mean the morning where it's still night. The other morning will come later.

For me, it will soon be time to read and/or sleep. In this case, the two have an inverse relationship. read = 1 / sleep . Either way I win, really. The less I sleep, the more I read. The less I read, the more I sleep. So, one extreme finds me well-rested yet intellectually unstimulated, and the other finds me well-read and stunned, like a deer in an atomic flash.

Now it is the second morning, the bright one that I mentioned earlier. But it's not so bright, and it's not so morning. It's afternoon, and it's raining. But that's ok.

Potatoes

Y'know, I'll bet whoever discovered potatoes was like "WHOA! I just found the best food ever, underground!"
And then they gathered an armload of them and took them back to a cave and enjoyed just holding them.
Who would have thought they'd be so good?
Whoever cooked them first was no doubt delighted, as well.
I hope it was the same person.

Hey, everyone! Glad to see that the site's popularity has picked up even more!

Had coffee with my friend Kyra today, had a big discussion about the future and whatnot, and I'm going to spend some marathon time figuring things out.
I'm determined to achieve success early on, so that I can enjoy life how I want to.

New comic, and it's not made by me! What's going on? You'd better go see!

New article in the Controversy section, about the Muhammad Cartoons Controversy world issue. If you haven't heard about it yet, click the Wikipedia link in the article, it's an interesting Free Speech issue.

Entry time! Hmm, what to write about? It's 6:25 PM. I have just eaten a gigantic dinner of Chinese food, beer, cake, and iced cream. It was very festive, and very delightful. Fun was had by all!

Adventure day in town today. I dragged Colin around to several places he wasn't keen on, but he made me go in the grocery store, so it was ok! And he got to watch me eat, which he's going to write about soon, over there ->
Stay tuned, Space Cowboy!

Another lovely day. Hike tomorrow, dance on Saturday, should be fun!

Counter hits 800!

Go, Space Cowboy, Go!

Saturday, February 11th, 2006

The hike was really nice. I ended up going to a party that night, where I mingled with lots of people that I'd never met before. Most of them were quite friendly.
Tonight is the dance, which I'm hoping will be fun. Things are what you make of them. Often if you go into things with a good attitude, you find fun in them, rather than being resistant and joyless. I choose fun.

Until next time, Space Cowboy!

Sunday, February 12th, 2006

Today is the staging area for a brand new Mad Science project that starts tomorrow. It's called The Dieter. Today is the last day for awhile that I will be able to eat whatever I want. Check the Mad Science section for details!

The dance last night was ok, not as giant a crowd as I had hoped, but it was fun hanging out with some people that I like. I attempted dancing, which was awkward yet still quite fun.

Just had my "last meal". In less than 15 minutes, the experiment begins!

Stay tuned, Space Cowboy!

Well, already this morning the site's hit counters broke (I think the company might have gone out of business). Not only did they stop working, for some reason they made it so that I couldn't dynamically edit the code for the site, and even when I tried to download it and edit it on my computer, it froze 2 different text editors in the process. I managed to get into it with an OS X version of SimpleText that I have lying around, removed the counter code, re-uploaded it, and now it works again! How very strange! It's like the counters melted the pages when they burned out.

Now I'm in the process of shopping for a new web counter (By shopping, I mean finding a free one).

I'll be updating my Mad Science project later on. Not much to report at this point.

Ok, new super fancy counter installed, even better than the last one. The big difference is that this counter counts identical hits in a row, so it will register a much higher number than the last counter, faster.

Ok, made a small update to Mad Science.

I'm not going to mention Mad Science updates for this project now, because I make them fairly frequently. Keep checking back!

Stay tuned, Space Cowboy!

Happy Valentine's Day!

At this point, this site is getting about 80 hits per day.

I don't know what the sky looks like outside, because it's dark,
but I can imagine that it is shifting and purple and filled with bright stars, and undulating like the sea.

I think this site has definitely crossed some sort of popularity line! It's getting fairly regular visits now, from different people! And people are finding it through search engines! I'm very happy about this!

Stay tuned, Space Cowboy!

Wednesday, February 15th, 2006

Good morning everyone, or should I say, shortly after midnight? I finished Pattern Recognition, and still couldn't sleep, so I got up to work on my textbook. Insomniacs rejoice, you have company.

I just realized that nowhere on this page, does it say the word "robot". As someone who thinks that robots are completely awesome, I think that this mention has been necessary for quite some time, and long overdue.

We're looking at about 130 hits per day now, site-wide (Some of the number inflation is due to me putting monitors on more of the pages of the site, but the counts are averages, so that should smooth out over time).

Oh, and hey, y'know what? You should join the forums if you haven't already, forums are a lot more fun when people post things in them. Maybe we can turn it into something really awesome. Or something unexpected and awesome? Or something unexpected and awesome and, um, am I tired, or just malnourished? Or clearly both?

Wow, it's still the 15th! Days go slowly when you do crazy things like not eat. That's all over now, though.

Space Cowboy it up, Space Cowboy!

Thursday, February 16th, 2006

Good morning!

Current Popularity: About 130 hits per day

It's time to go outside and stack firewood. I'm bringing my iPod, so it'll be a lot more bearable.

Done outside. When I was out there, I got an idea, and that idea is to put an archive of my previous endeavour, Text Radio Jesse, on this site, so that people can read it. Already, looking at it, it's like hearing my voice from the past echoing down a hallway, like a ghost, but actually just a voice from another time.

I've only been keeping track for 3 days, but so far, no one has visited this site during the hour of 8 am (Pacific Time). It is the one hour of the day that has received no visits so far. Significance? Maybe! Conspiracy? Who knows? 8 o'Clock? I like it.

TRJ Archives are online, but incomplete. Feel free to read what I have added so far!

Just read an interesting article about brrreeeport
It's a made up word designed entirely to give lesser-known blogs popularity, by making it so that they show up in a search for the word brrreeeport, which didn't exist before the experiment started. I'm a little late in jumping on the bandwagon, as google is currently returning 22,400 results for a search of the word, but the important thing is, I AM on the bandwagon. brrreeeport!

Don't forget to rock, Space Cowboy!

Friday, February 17th, 2006

Blurgh, popularity's down to 110 hits per day today. Could just be the averages settling. Also, I hit the pages a lot when I'm working on them. Anyway, nothing to get worked up over. I'll be really excited when my Alexa ranking goes up. It's been dropping at a very steady rate since I started keeping track of it. The steadiness of it, however, leads me to believe that maybe it just hasn't found its real place yet, because I don't think that my site has been steadily losing popularity (to the contrary, actually). Anyway, you can bet you'll hear about it on here when the line on the graph finally goes up instead of down.

All I've written about today so far is site popularity? Wow, you must be really bored right now. Unless you have some sort of unnaturally intense interest in site popularity.
Ok, I'll describe this one moment of my day. I'm listening to a Shins song. It's sunny, and I get a percentage of that through the windows. I'm nearing page 100 in my textbook (out of over 500 that I need to get through). I'm trying to decide if I actually want a glass of water, or if I just think I do for some reason. Back at it, I go. I'm going to opt not to have that glass of water.

One thing that I've learned since I've started analyzing my web traffic, is that the internet is SWARMING WITH ROBOT WEB SPIDERS! You'd have no idea, if you didn't know, but all day and all night, these robot spiders are constantly visitng websites going, "what's this? look at this! hey, I'm a robot!". Lots of them come from search engines and whatnot, but many of them are mysterious and unaccounted for. Kind of neat, and kind of creepy! So many things are!

Time for me to hack away at TRJ some more.

The TRJ Archives are complete! You can read them in their section, over on the right!

Space space space space space space, Cowboy!

If the switch is turned halfway, sparks come out.

And then in a dream, something along the lines of, "I'll flip the switch all of the way, then."

New comic in the comics section.

Oh, and popularity's back up to 130 hits per day.

Sunday, February 19th, 2006

Just because you're paranoid, don't mean they're not after you.

Remember that. I didn't write it. But remember it.

140 hits per day now. I'm writing earlier than usual though, so it may settle down a bit as the day plays out. We'll see.

Sometimes the brain just doesn't want to be conscious anymore. The only problem is, that's usually when it's hardest to sleep. The same thing making you want to do something is the same thing making it less and less possible. I think this is what leads some people to suicide, alcoholism, and/or drug addiction. I'm not a fan of the idea of taking any of these paths, so I'll have to figure out a better idea. Smashing my head against a brick wall until unconscious isn't a good one either. Only one or two times of that would quickly lead to both disfigurement and brain damage. So, all of these options aside, riding it out seems the most obvious path, and the path of least resistance. I guess a lot of the best art comes from states like this. The mind and the heart are tortured, so they try to explain why. I think that's why so many artists die young, too. They take the latter path, and then they choose one of the former ones.
Maybe they're tired of seeing what their heart spits out onto paper. Maybe they're just tired.

Music can save your life.

Wow, late update today! It would take slightly more than the end of the world to make me stop keeping this blog. Yeah, I know, I've missed a few days along the way, but a surprisingly small amount. You may notice my counters displaying misleadingly inflated numbers, but I'm going to look into that. I think I'm going to just get them to stop displaying anything at all. I mainly use them for their broader range of statistics tools.

Haha, you say. I've waited all day for an update, and all he talks about is the update itself. Well, I've been reading Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.

Oh, and I erased LoGD. There were only 2 regular players, and even then it was probably the single largest draw on bandwidth. Sorry, KnifeGhost.

Tuesday, February 21st, 2006

The 21st? How is February going so fast? In some ways it's going slowly, but we're already almost 2 months into 2006? I need to step up production!

I get a lot of people coming to the site who have searched for "space cowboy mmorpg". If you're looking for the game itself, a MMORPG called Space Cowboy, it's at www.spacecowboy.net. I'm not affiliated with the game in any way. It does look intriguing, however, so I'm going to sign up and try it. I'll report back with my experiences.

Wow, I just got the first communal blog spam that didn't stretch the page so far horizontally that it rendered the site ugly and unreadable. So, in gratitude for that, I'm leaving it there! I've also been charmed by its wonderful use of the english language:
Hi!
I'm love pics in tjis site!
This is a very cool! ))))
In response to Sexy (who, probably coincidentally, has the email address sex@porn.sex.com), I'm glad that you love pics in tjis site! I'm not sure what that means, but it apparently makes you happy. I also think that my site is a very cool! Keep being a fan.

Ok, fine, I'm erasing the site addresses from the entry, they ugly up the site.

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2006

Complete and utter insomnia now. 3am, and I have to be up in 4 hours. I'm not looking forward to the dentist part of tomorrow, but I am looking forward to lunch and other activities.

Back from town now. Very tired. Earliest I've been up in days and days. I know it's not impressively early, but when you're really really not accustomed to such a thing, it can cause powerful waves of drowsiness. I'm glad I'm not... some sort of machine guy... making some sort of machine... work.

Now I'm working on my computer programming textbook. I have a lot of work to do. I think I'm going to get a lot less sleep than usual over the next while. Out of coffee for tonight, though. Maybe I'll make a pot...

Thursday, February 23rd, 2006

So I did end up making a pot of coffee last night. It was a package from a hotel. It was designed for a 6 cup pot, but I figured that it could be stretched for a 12 cup pot. I was wrong. It tasted like some kind of weird hybrid between coffee and tea. It pretty much became white upon the addition of milk. Undaunted, I decided to drink a whole bunch of it anyway, the logic being that if I drank all of it, I'd be drinking the intended amount of coffee, one way or another, despite the excesses of water, cream, and sugar. I stopped after awhile. I woke up tired and disoriented, but it could just be the transition between nocturnal and diurnal that I've been going through.

Olympic Commentator Quote of the Day: "It was nice to see the Russians show some emotion, and not be robots all the time." -CBC Commentator

Ok, removed the erroneous counter displays from every page. The counters are still in place, though. I just hacked them a bit so that they don't display anything now. I didn't want to dig around in the inner workings of them to try to fix them, because it wouldn't have been worth the risk of making the counter system inaccurate. Yay!

*Unexpectedly mad laughter* I just signed up for a free wiki of unlimited size from pbwiki.com. I'm going to link to it momentarily. I'm thinking of making it free for all to edit! (but I haven't completely gone over all of the implications of this yet). Stay tuned!

Ok, I'm going to do it, it's going to be experimental, and on a trial basis. If you abuse it, I'll take it away. Also, I will change anything I don't like. Enjoy!

Friday, February 24th, 2006

Ok, I just checked my Google pagerank, which has consistently been 0 since I started this site, and today it's reading at 4! It doesn't seem possible, somehow, from what I've read about pageranks, but 4 is excellent! I would have nearly peed my pants if I'd seen it at 1! Time will tell if it stays there, or if it's some sort of transitional thing? If it does, I'll be more excited than I can easily explain in english!

Ok, and some new Blog 2 spam, apparently largely about veterinary grade medicine? I'm just going to erase this one...

Saturday, February 25th, 2006

I went out last night, something I don't do all that much. I had a good time. Once again, made me want to work as hard and as fast as I can so that I can get on with my life, and be free for summer.

I really ought to write more, today's entry is disproportionately small! I napped for most of the afternoon. It is snowing. Or has been. Or still is. I haven't checked in a while. It's dark outside but I will turn on my balcony light. Snow raises my morale!

Short-term movitvation is really hard for some reason. Oddly, the big picture is easier to get. It's more abstract, but it's larger, so you might think there'd be some compensation there. However, this has been somewhat of an unproductive day for me. I guess I have some excuses, but excuses don't really get anyone anywhere. Anyway, I've got lots of music, lots of time, lots of light, and lots to do. So it's time to get some things done.

Sunday, February 26th, 2006

I think that there are different ways that you can lose your mind. Or different levels. At any rate, and for whatever reason, it seems that it can happen more than once. And by this I mean as a progressive, additive series of events, rather than the same event occurring multiple times.

So in the continuing "space cowboy mmorpg" saga, I tried signing up for the game using 3 different web browsers, and it didn't seem to be working with any of them. Either the game is somehow defunct, or it doesn't like OS X for some reason, or I just wasn't waiting long enough or something, but the Submit button didn't seem to be working. Stay tuned, investigation will continue.

Ah, one of my questions has been answered. It's for Windows only, and you have to download the game. I won't be installing it on this computer anytime soon, but perhaps I'll write another installment if I decide to install it on a Windows computer.

Monday, February 27th, 2006

12:24 AM

I think that when a person falls into a classification of intelligence above a certain line, they trancend a boundary, in which they are not only experiencing life, living it, they are also able to look down on life from an outside perspective. They see things about the inner workings of things. They see into the past, they see into the future. And I think that along with this, can come a profound sort of unhappiness, a feeling of near-despair, a feeling that they are seeing things that other people don't see.

Sometimes I think that life would be easier for some people if they could deliberately damage their brains to the point where a lot of these things wouldn't matter anymore, to the point where this sort of second-sight is lost. Like an angel cutting off its own wings and falling to Earth. But maybe some burdens are best carried. It could amount to something.

Agh, pagerank is back down to 0 again! That's frustrating!

It may have flickered back up to 4 briefly, but maybe not. Maybe it's on the line? Anyway, time will tell.

Added a 3rd party Google PageRank checker to the site, you can access it from the Sections list over on the right there. If you have a wesbite, it'll tell you how important Google considers it to be.

10:29 PM

As complicated as the mind is, it sure can have a way of having trouble living with itself.

And there are always more surprises. More than you expected. And then more. And then more. And I'm not planning on typing infinity tonight.

Keep on keeping on.

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

Ahh, my PageRank's back up to 4! It must be in some kind of state of transition, or sitting just on the line.

New link. Scroll down, lazy!
