Second day of the year. It was an odd evening, involving a staff party.

Woke up to more storminess. Rolled over and went back to sleep.
Starting another project, PROJECT 5, another screen saver. PROJECT 2 is delayed until further notice. Expect PROJECT 5 before PROJECT 2.

I just walked 15km on an empty stomach.
Oh, and without sleep, too.
So, I've been thinking about the concept of "Critical Mass" regarding a website. For those of you not familiar with the concept, that's when a website's popularity becomes self-sustaining. It's like in a nuclear reaction, where the reaction eventually gets to a point where, by golly, there's no going back. And then it feeds itself. And then the world ends.
The good news is, I'm not planning for this site to end the world. So critical mass for me, will mean visitors. Hopefully enthusiastic visitors.
A beautiful thing about the way the Internet works today is that once a site gets popular enough, it essentially becomes popular FOR being popular, if you get what I mean. The more recognition a website has, the higher it climbs in the search engine rankings, and consequently, visitors are more likely to find it. Enter critical mass.
What is this splitting headache? Is my diet deconstructing me?
New Section! See?
Ok, this diet is over.

It's 2006, and what have we accomplished? The world hasn't been saved yet.
It's 2006, and what have I accomplished? Every minute that comes makes me want to work harder, faster.
The 21st century isn't breathing down our necks anymore. It's leaning over us, staring into our faces. What does it see? What do we see?
A moderately large red and black spider just jumped down from the ceiling and landed on me. It might still be on me somewhere.

The challenge: To finish 3 courses worth of material as fast as possible.
Result: I get my degree!

It's amazing how one can get out of bed and their outlook has changed dramatically. One way or the other.

Wow! I just installed a guestbook! And hacked it so that it would display on this page, with custom colours and format!
Even though I don't know php to the point where I can write my own big scripts yet, I'm quite proud of myself that I'm able to hack existing scripts to this degree. Makes me feel like a real programmer!
In other news, I didn't sleep last night. Time will tell whether I'll stay up all day, or fall asleep somewhere and wake up, disoriented and in the future.
10:07 PM
And the results are in: It was the second one. I woke up at 8-something PM and had dinner.
Then I had dessert.
And that brings us to now.

Adventure day today. Going to town to get the exhaust system in my car fixed.
I had a dream last night that a psycho girl jumped into the driver's seat of my car from the back and almost drove it off a cliff.
We survived it, and then while walking, it was brought to light that, word had it, I had bought 38 pairs of pants from the local grocery store. I hotly disputed it.
Adventure in town! My car purrs like a kitten now!

Yesterday, I received the book "PHP Game Programming".
I started it yesterday, and I'm going to work hard on it today.
I'm going to take one day off from running training to let my muscles heal. Tomorrow, hopefully, I'll feel twice as strong with twice the endurance.

Totally modularized the code for this page, with my new comfortable knowledge of the include() function.

There are two things that probably shouldn't be mixed with business:
politics, and
emotion.
More and more, however, I find this to be constraining, and unnatural. I see injustices, and I want to break the first rule. I get passionate, and I want to break the second.
I think I need to stop holding back. I think people will be comforted to know that even in the (more) faceless world of looking for profit, behind the scenes there are still people, with thoughts and ambitions and desires. I'm not going to pretend that I'm above it all. I hope that you will all get to know me a little bit.

I need to write more in this blog. But where to begin?
Right now I'm wearing three layers of clothing because the climate is miserable. I know, other places are colder, but I'm finding it hard to bear around here lately. I would think that, if given the choice, most people would move to some point on the earth that falls directly on the equator. I'm not sure how much unoccupied land fits the profile, but I'll bet there's some.
I am quite happy to live in Canada, but there isn't one spot in the whole country that receives consistent warmth. Guess I'll keep adding layers for now.

Seems to me I had plans for what to write in here today, but if I did, I don't seem to recall exactly what they were.
Last night I was reading Neverwhere, by Neil Gaiman, as I was drifting off to sleep, and I kept starting to doze off and dreaming that I was reading words on the page. They even seemed like words that would be in the book, the delightful banter of strange British characters, for example. Where did I learn to make up such things in my head, on the fly? Maybe they only seemed to me in my dreamlike state as things that delightful British characters would say, when they were actually nonsense? At any rate, I, at one point, actually scanned the page I was on, after one such imaginary reading session, to see if I had somehow managed to actually read those words out of the book, with my eyes closed. I didn't find any of the aformentioned sentences.

I voted today.
I'm going to go and eat.
Jesse's Election Coverage™
6:53 PM
None of the polls have closed yet, so we're talking 0 votes for everyone! Updates to follow!
7:02 PM
Nausea wave... Conservatives leading, Conservative government declared in advance, based on polls. I really hope not.
7:16 PM
Wow, the NDP is getting rocked by the Bloc Quebeqois, to boot. This election sucks so far.
That little talk I gave a few days ago about mixing business and politics is finally showing its face in the world of relevance. Don't say I didn't warn you.
The thought of Stephen Harper as Prime Minister really bothers me.
Oh, and I ate a rather delicious bowl of chocolate iced cream with hot fudge and chocolate chips and mini marshmallows on top. I hope some of you read this to learn about things like that. I would.
7:36 PM
Liberals trailing by 25 seats... Intense.
8:18 PM
I ate more or less a potfull of spaghetti. I'm so full it hurts.
8:24 PM
My local NDP candidate is in the lead by almost 600 votes. This is good news.
9:21 PM
Election results still disappointing, roughly stable. Watching the numbers wobble up and down is a fool's game.
My mysteriously injured ankle is hurting again, making walking somewhat difficult.
Counter reaches 600!
And my local NDP candidate got in!!!!! I'm happy about that!

Wow, the Conservatives are going to run Canada. This displeases me.
Time-Travel Edit: I made a political cartoon about this displeasure, here's a permalink to it: Stephen Harper. There you go, enjoy!
New section, Mad Science, and new project, that I call The Author. Enjoy!
According to the pictures on the bag, apparently All-Dressed chips are vinegar, red pepper, and (leek? green onion?) flavoured. I wouldn't have guessed.

I'm going to attempt to re-arrange the layout of the main page.
It worked! I really changes the mood of the site, I think. And it promotes equality, in the field of blogging. Blog away, everyone!

My first adventure of today involved travelling to get hair dye. I was briefly thwarted by a road Detour, and then on the way back, was nearly thwarted by a partially blocked-off section of crumbling road. Apparently the roads in this place are falling apart. Upon arriving home, I made myself a lunch of canned ravioli in meat sauce, and then proceeded to dye my hair. I then rinsed off the dye, and took an excessively long bath, my new strategy for getting all of the extra dye off of my face, so that I don't look ridiculous. Who wants to look ridiculous? And that brings us to now, as I type this message to you.
So, when was someone going to tell me that I've titled every entry of this month January, 2005? It's not January, 2005!
Friday, January 27th, 2006
Good day to you. There's a storm outside. But good day.
This entry isn't big enough yet. I need to write in here more. As this site is currently mostly a blog site, it needs more blogging! Again, feel free to add as much as you want, to Blog 2, to the right of this one.
I feel drowsy. I don't usually feel drowsy, but right now I do. And I was really hungry. So I ate a can of Chicken Noodle Soup. It was very tasty. I think I'm going to eat more after I finish this entry, too. If you were wondering, I'm a big fan of food. I give clues to this in previous entries. Luckily, however, I'm not obese. I guess I have a fast metabolism. I do gain a bit of weight sometimes, but it's probably 10% of the weight gain that you might expect from someone who eats as much as I do. Sometimes I joke that I'm going to become a big fat man, just for fun, but when I really think about it, I could invest my energy in better ways. Like, for instance, exercising and converting all of that food energy that is probably enough to power a house, into muscle. Yeah. So, I'm going to eat more, and then I'm going to lift weights for awhile. There! I wrote a lot! Bye!
I ate, but I didn't lift weights, because, in all honesty, I don't want the power to go out while I'm in the basement. The resulting struggle to find my bearings would not be pleasant. Especially if I were holding up the weights at the time... Not a pleasant thought. Anyway, perhaps I will lift weights tomorrow!

I'm back at home again. I went to a party last night, it was crazy and fun.

Today, I'm getting back into my C Programming course. If I'm going to be finished by summer, I need to work fast!
Tuesday, January 31st, 2006
Ok, so apparently yesterday was the 23th... Am I having some sort of mental breakdown? (I fixed the date now, it was actually the 30th). Anyway, if you notice any more strange occurrences of the sort, I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know.
In other news, hmm... I drank a cup of coffee. A few minutes ago. It was pretty good.

See, one of these days, my ARMS are going to be stronger than your LEGS. What's that you say? I don't know who's reading this? Well, no matter who you are, my ARMS are going to be stronger than your LEGS.
Ok, I've completed the hardest step. I've un-buried my textbook from underneath a stack of other books. The next step is to open it, and then to find my place. I can do this. 3 Textbooks and 3 Exams stand between me and Summer. It's like a story in which 3 challenges await me, and I must overcome them all. And then I get Summer. I'm not sure how many stories there are out there where Summer is the goal at the end, but that's how this one is. I wonder if I'll need a sword?
It's getting extremely stormy here, moreso than it has been in a long time. The power might go out, so I'm updating while I still can!
